Happy 60th post!!

This is a goodbye post- not goodbye to blogging, but goodbye to our Bible study. Last night was the first Thursday we spent at home by ourselves in a long time- about 10 years, in fact!
While I will miss the study, it is definitely time to move on to new things. Our original purpose for having the study was to start a church. If we could join all the people who graced us with their presence throughout the years we WOULD have a church. Some of them moved on to join the fellowship that sponsored the Bible study, which is about a 45 minute drive from here. We are very happy for those people and I take comfort in knowing that some fruit came out of all of our antics that we used throughout the years to try and advertise and support the study!
Memories of a failed church plant: (or a successful re-location ministry, however you choose to look at it!!)
Meeting in a coffeehouse (in their attic space with no possible fire escape!)
Having a punk band come play for us and having about 10 kids show up for it
Meeting outside in Veteran's park when we had no place to meet
Dog-sitting a deaf Great Dane who could obey hand signals
Ministering to the Grateful Dead folks when the Dead came to play in Wisconsin
Letting people use our house while we were out of town
The ladies meeting for prayer on campus on Tuesdays- one of which was 9-11-2001
Handing out controversial literature, which, in hindsight, was TOO controversial!
Taking a "year off" of Sundays to meet on Sunday morning for Bible study
Being able to minister to an old college friend
Meeting in a tattoo parlor for 2 years
Fun Island! (Those of you who were there, remember!)
Pretending to be asleep
Many, many grill-outs
Countless questions (only a few answered!)

And many many more!

Here's to the people: (names omitted)
  • The runner
  • The D.J.
  • The ex-hippie mom with a daughter named after a cluster of stars
  • The over-sized New Zealand er who stayed on our under-sized couch for a week
  • The two college girls who went on to marry two men in our home church
  • The biker dad
  • The car accident victim
  • The gardener
  • The tattoo artist
  • The angel with a walker (and an attitude!)
  • The inmates (at least 4 that I can think of right now)
  • The trapper
  • The wanna-be inventor
  • The Dead Head who married a friend's sister
  • The interior designer
  • The movie and music buff
  • The Civil War re-creator
  • The two biker ladies: and then there was one
  • The dogs: Harry-butt and Vern-o
  • The dummy (no, it was an actual "dummy"!)

Hm mm. Good times.

Such a touching post full of gratitude and hope. I think it's wonderful how much time, devotion and love you put for and it took on a life of it's own. It's so important to plant seeds and nurture them, watching them grow.

Lime-
We were a colorful group (and still are to a great extent).
Fortunately many of us are still friends, but some have fallen to the wayside. Such is life, I suppose.

G.Z.-
Thanks for the encouragement- I cycle back and forth between being nostalgic, hopeful and slightly despairing. I hope I'll get to see all of the folks again someday!

Ummm . . . yeah. What about me? I was a product of that study, but I'm not a biker, not an inmate(not that you know about, anyway!) and I don't have a walker, although- if I did? I'd be tempted to run over your toe right now! :P Okay, I'm simply too tired from hanging out at your house to run over anything(there were a couple of dear by the pooh plant, though, that were an option!)

Hey- my favorite part of the coffeehouse era was the attic, and the uber-dim bare light bulbs! Sitting around that table with just the 2 bare bulbs hanging down made me feel like we were hiding out! Like we were almost anywhere other than the good ol' US of A!

Weird having Thursdays free now, isn't it? I can relate!

Love you,
A

I guess now you'll just have to watch Grey's Anatomy like the rest of us fools. ;)

You did good works and had the sense to know when it was time to let them go. Maybe it is time for you to focus on bigger and better things.

A-
You were one of the aforementioned people whom I am so thankful for because you moved on and you're still going strong with God. 'Nuff said?
There were several people that I didn't mention for different reasons...

David-
Hi! Welcome, and thanks!

Captain-
Actually, truth be told, I DID watch Grey's Anatomy on Thursday night...however, I wasn't impressed- seemed like a late night ER-ish soap opera!

Whim-
Thanks...if anyone knows about "letting go" it's you (that wasn't meant to be a joke, but after I typed it, I realized that it could be taken as such....hope you don't mind that I left it there!)

You almost gave me a fright when I read the first few lines... goodbye post.

Fortunately not goodbye to blogging. Phew. Looking forward to stopping by your site and are always glad to receive your message in mine.

Hope all is good there always.

WOW...sounds like you have had quite the adventure!

Good luck on the ending of one trip....and the beginning of another! :)

It doesn't sound like that effort was a failure at all. Sure it didn't lead to a church, but it really does sound like a great experience.

What a delightful summary of a period of your life.

Imran-
Sorry to scare you...I thought it's be funny to start out that way and make people think for a second that I wasn't going to blog anymore!

Queen-
Yes, it HAS been an adventure, and this list is not even close to a complete list!

DD-
Yes, it wasn't a failure...especially in God's eyes. It's funny how we humans get an idea in our heads of how we want things to happen, but God has His own plan!

Tanie-
Thanks- I had fun writing it!
